2024-04-17 HUUSD Board Meeting Recap

The meeting began with public comment: Jane Regan, Jackie McCarty, Linda Cummings, and Matt Henchen, members of the Harwood staff, each provided comments regarding the upcoming budget vote and budgetary impacts on the student experience in the District.
Board Reports:
- Leadership - No questions were raised regarding the contents of this report.
- Superintendent - Dr. Mike highlighted some items from his written report and answered questions from Board members.
- Central Vermont Career Center - Mike provided an update on happenings at CVCC
- Publicity Committee - Steve provided some information about the Committee’s activities, and asked for volunteers to hand out flyers.
- Legislative Advocacy: School construction - Danielle had provided a draft communication to the Legislature regarding this topic.
- A motion to amend the agenda and add approval of the School Construction letter as drafted by Danielle for forwarding to legislative representatives, signed by the Board, passed without objection or abstention.
Topics for discussion:
- Rachael Potts, Maggie Winetraub and Tara Kelley provided information about several aspects of the Aspirations Program, and answered related questions from Board members.
In action items, the Board:
- Approved the materials from the Publicity Committee for the 4/30/2024 budget vote.
- Amended and approved Danielle’s letter for the legislature regarding school construction.
- Approved an updated budget letter for public posting.
