The HUUSD School Board met in person (with an option for remote participation) last Wednesday, March 13, 2024.
The meeting began with public comment: There was no public comment.
Board Reports:
- Leadership - No questions were raised regarding the Leadership Report.
- Superintendent - Dr. Mike reported on posting for Waterbury Board members.
- Board Reports - Professional development training on HBB hearings will be scheduled based upon Doodle poll results. Ashley and others testified regarding school budgeting at the Legislature 3/14. Tori reported that work on policies continues and more will be coming to the Board for review.
Topics for discussion:
Budget
- FY25 Revised Budget Reduction Discussion - Dr. Mike reported on Title 1 fund reductions reported to the District last week. Lisa reviewed budget information, for which she is using the new projected yield of $10K to perform calculations that indicate percentage increases and impacts to the pre-CLA tax rate. Lisa presented information on where cuts would likely be made to achieve the various reductions she outlined. She and Dr. Mike answered questions for Board members.
- Potential Tax Implications - This information was included in Lisa’s presentation.
- Follow up from discussion on 03-08-2024 - Board members provided input on their town’s potential support for another budget.
- Community Engagement - Potential strategies were discussed for getting relevant information to and feedback from community members
In action items, the Board:
- A motion to approve the amended page 12 (Articles 8.11 and 8.13) of the support staff contract for July 1, 2023 - June 30, 2026 passed without objection or abstention.
- A motion to ratify a side letter with the Harwood Unified Education Association regarding modified Reduction in Force (RIF) deadlines passed unanimously with Ashley abstaining as Chair.

The 91探花 Board is seeking to fill two (2) vacant seats from Waterbury. The Board seeks volunteers who reside in Waterbury to fill the seats until Town Meeting Day in March 2025.

Send both the completed application and a letter of interest to Board Chair Ashley Woods ([email protected]) and Superintendent Mike Leichliter () by March 27.

The school district will forward all materials to the Waterbury Town Clerk.

The Waterbury Select Board will interview candidates on April 1, 2024, and recommend candidates to the School Board, which will officially make the appointment on April 10, 2024.
