The HUUSD School Board met in person (with an option for remote participation) last Wednesday 9/13/23.
The meeting began with public comment:
- Brian Fleisher of Waitsfield provided comments regarding the bond planning taking place.
Board Reports:
- Student Report - Naomi provided information regarding student interest in serving on the Board and related interviews.
- Superintendent - Dr. Mike reported that administrative procedures have been developed for restraint and seclusion, as well as access control.
- Board Reports - Ashley provided an update on the Central Vermont Career Center (CVCC), for which she is a representative from HUUSD. Dr. Mike noted that he has volunteered to serve on the Facilities committee of the CVCC Board as a community representative.

Policy - First Read
Tori provided an overview of the process, noting that most of the changes incorporated were formatting related and that the policies are all based upon model policies provided by the AOE.

- Volunteers and Work Study Students
- Drug and Alcohol Testing
- Tobacco Prohibition
In action items, the Board:
- Approved a motion to appoint JB Weir and Tori Taravella to the teacher negotiations committee. Ben Clark abstained.
- Approved a motion to appoint Ben Clark, Life LeGeros, and Danielle Dukette to the 360° Survey Development Committee
- Approved a motion to hire Pietro Lynn as a member of the Negotiation committee for Teacher Negotiations 2023-2024
- Approved a motion to approve for warning:
- A1 Role and Adoption of School Board Policies
- B1 Board Member Education
- G21 Proficiency-Based Graduation Requirements

Additionally, at the beginning of each Board meeting we invite public comment. Alternately, reach out to one of your neighbors who is on the school board and share your thoughts in a personal email or phone call (see a list of Board members and contact information at).
The Board’s next meeting will be on Wednesday, 9/27/23 at 6pm. Community members may attend in person in the Harwood library or remotely via zoom (), or watch it broadcast live on Youtube (). Agendas and other related documents are available at huusd.org.
