The HUUSD School Board met in person (with an option for remote participation) last Wednesday, May 24, 2023.
The meeting began with public comment:

Brian Dalla Mura offered comments regarding acknowledging the effects of the use of restraint and seclusion in the district.
Board Reports:
- Students - The student representatives discussed Spirit Week, Sunday Fun-Day, the Student Voice Collective, the Proficiency-Based Learning Survey, and a timeline for engaging with rising Juniors as potential School Board representatives.
- Superintendent - Dr. Mike discussed four topics: School Board policy crosswalk and administrative procedures, superintendent goals, revised field trip administrative procedures, and the last day of school.
- Director of Finance - Lisa discussed her projection for end-of-year budget results.
Topics for Discussion:
- Harkness Program - Kate Stauss summarized the program, and students participated in a demonstration of a Harkness discussion.
- Varsity Girls’ Basketball Trip - Tommy Young, along with some members of the team, gave a presentation about the recent trip to the Balkans.
- Changing June 14 meeting date - The meeting date was changed to Tuesday, June 13.
- Superintendent’s Year-End Summary of Goals and presentation of proposed goals for next year - Dr. Mike reported on the progress made on the goals established for his position for the year and provided some associated deliverables. Shannon, Lisa, and John also presented their respective goal areas and the areas of focus for 2023-24. Mike answered related questions from Board members.
In Action Items, the Board:
- Appointed Katelyn Liptak as Moretown Elementary School Principal.
- Approved the flag request to fly the Pride Flag from June 1 to June 30, 2023.
- Authorized the Superintendent as CEO of the HUUSD to accept and administer all federal grants.
- Accepted the Professional Staff Employment and Change in Status of the individual(s) listed per the effective date for the 2023-2024 school year.
- Adopted the Restraint and Seclusion Policy, which will go into effect July 1.

The next meeting date was moved from June 14 to June 13, 2023 because of a conflict with the Crossett Brook School graduation date.
