The HUUSD School Board met in person and remotely on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.
The meeting began with public comment:

Board Reports:

Superintendent - Dr. Mike highlighted items from his written report and answered questions from Board members.
Topics for Discussion:
- Rwanda Trip - HUHS teacher Steve Rand, and two students Ellie Buckingham and Naomi Myers shared information about the school’s trip to Rwanda. Over 30 students went. Two video projects from the trip were shared with the Board. Future plans are to bring Rwandan students here for homestays with a Bernie Sanders grant.
- Straw Poll re Lead Nurse Infectious Disease Update - After some discussion, results of a straw poll indicated that most Board members would like to have a conversation with Allison Conyers.
- Bond Planning - A general discussion took place, focused mainly on the topic of middle school configuration. Dr. Mike summarized his potential plan/schedule including formation of a bond leadership team composed of administrators, community and board members, and community outreach culminating in a November 2024 bond vote. A straw poll indicated that a decision should be made at the June 14 Board meeting regarding the inclusion of middle school reconfiguration in the bond vote planning.
In Action Items, the Board:
- Approved a motion to hear from the Food Service for Waitsfield and Fayston.
- Approved a motion to appoint Ben Clark, JB Weir, and Bobbi Rood to the Professional Development Committee.
- Approved a motion for Professional Staff Employment and Change in Status for the 2023-2024 school year.
In honor of National School Nurses Day, the Board chair, on behalf of the Board, offered a sincere thank you to all the District’s nurses. The Board also recognized that it was Teacher Appreciation Week. The Chair provided a statement of gratitude for the hard work and dedication of the teaching staff.
