The HUUSD School Board met in person (with an option for remote participation) last Wednesday, January 11, 2023.

The meeting began with public comment from Brian Dalla Mura on Restraint and Seclusion policy development. 

Board Reports:

  • Superintendent: Dr. Mike spoke of his legislative appearance regarding Hunger Free Vermont and answered questions from Board members regarding communicable disease procedures and data availability.

Topics For Discussion:

  • ESSER Funding Overview: Director of Curriculum & Technology Shannon Lessley spoke about the historical and current use of ESSER funds over the past three years. Principals Laurie Greenberg, Mandy Couturier, and Chris Neville reported on the effectiveness of the staff positions and programming initiatives funded by ESSER. 
  • Budget Discussion: Lisa Estler highlighted some changes made to the proposed level service budget. The Board asked Lisa to compare how a decrease in a level service budget would impact services vs. an increase in a level service budget.

In action items, the Board:

  • Approved a motion for the 2023-2024 school year to set a K-6 tuition rate of $19,168 and a 7-12 tuition rate of $21,689.
  • Approved a motion for  participation in the Winooski Valley Regional Public School Choice Collaborative for the 2023-2024 school year.
  • Approved a motion to adopt E20 Communicable Disease Mitigation Measures for Students and Staff--with Kristen abstaining as Chair.
  • Approved a motion to delete policies F17 Head Lice and E21L-HU HIV/STI Prevention Policy. 

The Board would like to communicate that the following towns have open seats available for election in March:

  • Moretown, 1 seat
  • Waitsfield, 1 seat
  • Fayston, 2 seats
  • Duxbury, 2 seats
  • Waterbury, 2 seats

The deadline to submit a petition to your Town Clerk is January 30. Please see information about joining the board .
